Looking to the Future

Growing to meet the needs of our growing community is a tall order. Fortunately, we have a committed partner by our side – the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine. Together, we are training tomorrow’s health providers and expanding our region’s workforce to improve overall health and healthcare for northern Nevadans.

Expanding Opportunities for Students

A primary goal of this affiliation is to help provide University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine students with more educational options. Renown is partnering with UNR Med to increase both clinical teaching and research possibilities for third- and fourth-year medical students.

Adding Residencies and Fellowships

On this path, expanding residencies and fellowships will be key. Together, we are working to double the number of residences statewide by the end of 2019. Additionally, we are collaborating on the creation of new medical student clerkships in obstetrics and gynecology, neurology, emergency medicine and surgery as well as expanded student electives in internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics and psychiatry.

Welcoming New Physician Assistant Program

Improving and expanding care in our region is not limited to physicians. Renown and UNR Med are also creating the area’s first Master of Physician Assistant program. Renown committed to help kick-start the program and will provide the expertise of Renown providers and leading-edge training sites. Before this collaboration, the closest PA program was located in Sacramento, California. Pending approval, the first PA class will begin in June 2017 and 24 graduates will enter the workforce in fall 2019.

Integrating Leadership & Medical Offices

Helping to connect the expertise of both organizations, leaders at Renown Health have taken joint leadership roles with UNR Med in the areas of pediatrics and neurology. Additionally, the School of Medicine’s internal medicine multi-specialty and pediatrics medical offices also joined Renown Medical Group.
